And some encouraging news...

Not.

Kids with high IQs at risk for illegal drug use.

Always some tidbit out there to worry us moms.

Peace...

  1. I really thing this massive stigma about trying drugs is unjustified. There's a big difference between trying something new and being a heroine addict, for example. And this article does use the word 'try' several times, it does not suggest the problem goes deeper than that.

Also, someone with a high IQ would probably be more sensible about taking drugs - research into what's safer and try them in a safe environment, thus removing a lot of the risks involved.

Of course, there's always the risk that you could be allergic and one try could kill you but there's also a risk that you could be allergic to nuts and die the first time you try them.

To me, I guess this just makes sense - more intelligent people tend to be more drawn to trying new things, to expanding their horizons - it's not a bad thing and it's not something we should all get worried about.

  2. Trying some drugs is fine. We've all experimented, right? But there are some drugs out there that hook you from the get-go. That's what scares me.

  3. I don't know if I agree with this statement. I think that kids with no outside interests (ie sports, music, family activities) tend to be more of a concern with drug use. Perhaps it is when combined with the lack of outside interests that IQ becomes a factor because intelligent kids simply get bored.

  4. I hoped this small article would provoke -- and it did! I have actually ordered the full scientific paper because I study this stuff for my day job and because I sense I will find it riddled with holes. Nothing makes me happier than finding a flawed study. I will keep you all posted once I have dissected. Peace...
