Riddikulus

My life. Is.

I mean, how much else can go wrong?

We pay *professionals* to install a new sink and counter, but end up with a broken hot water main. The result? The Pergo kitchen floor ruined, the downstairs sliding glass doors frozen from the waterfall, and a 2x8 hole in the finished basement ceiling. Riddikulus.

A respected peer-review journal holds our manuscript for 10 months. We beg every month for an update. The editor explains the reviewers are reviewing. We withdraw our manuscript, the data's old as last year's apples. The result? The editor comes back with minor edits. Meanwhile, we get rejected by another, lesser journal. Riddikulus.

Back to the pros. The plumber gives us a sink drainer that doesn't drain--there's no holes. Result? Home Depot and $2 later gets me one that works. Riddikulus.

Wind blusters snow this morning, the roads are covered, and slick. Last week, when there was no snow, the school system closed the schools. Result? Kids went to school but barely made it. Riddikulus.

The day job finally flows. Deadlines loom, I am one hour away from finishing and--the power goes out. Entirely. All three floors, including the President's Suite. This last Wednesday. Result? Power still out, all from some undetected leak that destroyed a major part of the electric. Riddikulus.

So what's nutso in your life?

Peace...

    1. Then this post did its job! These are all aggravating and stressful things... but riddikulus in the grander scheme of life. Hugs to you, my friend...

  2. Yeah, we still laugh about our kitchen contractors. You have to laugh to keep from crying.

    1. We're laughing so hard our sides--and our wallets--are aching. We just priced out floors. O. M. G. You'll see me on the corner with my tin cup...

  3. I'm sorry about the kitchen, but I'd certainly take the minor edits from the superior journal! That sounds great.

    1. Yes, I would normally be happy-dancing with the comments. Unfortunately, we had withdrawn the manuscript and the editor would not allow it to be reconsidered. It's under review elsewhere. You think fiction pubbing is hard? At least you can sim-sub. In science, it's one freaking journal at a time. And after 10 months, well... I was pissed to say the least. Peace...

  4. Arggh, seriously? Well I hope the cookie-making and TV watching on the weekend helped a bit. (Homemade cookies help everything... well, they don't really but they're certainly yummy.)

Do you ever watch Mike Holmes on TV? I can't believe how many people pay good money for so-called professional contractors, only to wind up with problems exactly like yours. What you need is hunky Mike in his overalls to come around and fix your contractor's mistakes.

I honestly don't know what a homeowner is supposed to do. You hire good people, you check references, you have to trust and yet I rarely hear about successful renovations. We usually do our own renos. It's sooooooo much back-breaking work and I can't tell you how many times I've dreamed of just hiring someone to do it. But at least we knew it was done right. (My Dave is good at everything like that, which helps.)

    1. Home-made cookies, chocolate, wine, and coffee are the answers to all life's woes. And so is meditation (more on that *above*).

On the home improvement: if we could we would. But putting me and a hammer in the same room is a guarantee of disaster. Peace...

  5. How frustrating! I feel for you. We were blessed to find a wonderful contractor who outsources to equally gifted folks and each job has turned out great. The neat thing is, I found this fellow by asking my art framer when I needed a new paint job to better showcase new paintings and multi media works. My guardian angel worked overtime for that, I'm sure. I wish you a brighter tomorrow and many blessings.

    1. Thank you Darla! Please send your dude down here--he will make a small fortune. And my muttering are just that--I have so much to feel blessed about. Peace to you...
